Good bits
  • Huge variety of types and sizes of air conditioner
  • if properly sized, are very effective at cooling
  • those with a heat pump are also immensely  efficient heaters (planet saver)
  • installed air conditioners can be very sophisticated and likely to boost your property value

 Bad bits

  • set up/installation issues (air pipes, external condensers, refrigerant piping

►  Domestic and Office coolers

Evaporative coolers use the evaporation of water on moving air to produce a cooling effect. They take the 'edge' of the heat on hot days. Ideal for large well ventilated spaces where air conditioning would not be cost effective. Better that a fan but not as 'cooling' as air conditioning.

Good bits
  • simple
  • cheaper to buy than air conditioning
  • cheaper to run than air conditioning

Bad bits

  • can only be used in well ventilated areas
  • increases humidity of air
  • not as effective as air conditioning

Fans

drum fan

  Drum Fans
  Box Fans

Cooling air by using air movement is the oldest trick in the book and it does have some effectiveness. Using a fan to move air around a room increased the evaporation from skin which makes us feel slightly cool.

Good bits
  • simple, cheap & reliable
  • can be used almost anywhere you need them

Bad bits

  • limited effectiveness
